On Friday, May 16, 2025, in continuation of the strategic partnership between his office and the Coordination Desk of the United Nations on Northwest states, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), held a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Gautier Mignot, the Ambassador of the European Union, at the EU Embassy.

Their discussion centered on the European Union project known as the Global Gateway Strategy (GGS). Hon. Yakasai expressed his office’s intention to collaborate with the EU to explore ways of supporting vulnerable populations living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

In his submission during the meeting, the Senior Special Assistant highlighted a critical challenge: in the Northwest region, there is currently no accurate data on the number and location of IDP camps. He emphasized the urgent need to identify these IDPs in order to strategically develop a sustainable plan aimed at addressing their social needs, particularly in the areas of shelter, clean water, and rehabilitation processes.

Both parties agreed to work closely together across all seven states in the Northwest region, ensuring that their collaborative efforts align fully with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
