200 Almajiri Children Enrolled into Formal Education as Yakasai Delivers Renewed Hope Agenda

On January 19, 2025, as public schools resumed across the country, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), held the second edition of his flagship program, “Revamping Education in Northwest.”

The program, which began in 2024 under his office, was designed to enroll out-of-school children, commonly referred to as Almajiri, into formal education.

On this day, Hon. Yakasai and his team held the program at Yankaba Primary School in Kawaji, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, where they successfully enrolled 200 out-of-school children into the primary school system.

Each of the 200 students received a complete set of educational materials, including:

  • Uniforms
  • School bags
  • Exercise books
  • Writing materials

In addition to supporting the students, the Senior Special Assistant also provided teachers with teaching aids to enhance classroom instruction. These included:

  • Dustless chalk
  • Cardboard papers
  • Markers
  • Long note/hard cover notebooks
  • Red and blue pens
  • Correction pens
  • Sellotape
  • Rulers

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Yakasai stated that this is a deliberate attempt to take out-of-school children off the streets. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the same intervention across all local governments and throughout the entire Northwest region. He noted that the program aligns fully with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
