Hon. Yakasai Holds Strategic Meeting with UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed on Northwest’s Out-of-School Children, Healthcare, and Climate Action

On October 2, 2025, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), held a strategic meeting with Her Excellency Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The strategic meeting was convened to discuss the activities of Hon. Yakasai’s office in his capacity as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the Northwest region.

Of particular importance was their discussion on the critical challenges facing the region, including:

  • The crisis of out-of-school children
  • Primary healthcare delivery
  • The Climate Action Plan for the Northwest

Equally significant was their conversation on how to fast-track the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which align closely with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

During the meeting, Her Excellency Ms. Amina J. Mohammed took time to offer Hon. Yakasai strategic advice and guidance for succeeding in his office—advice he described as deeply captivating and invaluable.

Before departing, the Senior Special Assistant presented the Deputy Secretary General with the brochure highlighting his office’s activities, as well as the Climate Action Plan for the Northwest Region.

The initiative is co-funded by:

  • The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
  • The French Development Agency (AFD)
  • The Government of Nigeria

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the project is expected to sustainably reduce poverty, enhance nutrition, and improve the resilience of rural and vulnerable populations in the nine participating northern states, which include:

Borno, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.
